The Marshall Scholarships commemorate the humane ideals of the Marshall Plan and express the continuing gratitude of the British people to their American counterparts. Marshall Scholarships finance young Americans of high ability to study for a degree in the United Kingdom.
Marshall Scholars are selected to study at the graduate level at a U.K. institution in any field of study. A Marshall Scholarship is tenable for one or two academic years at any British university but may be extended by the commission, though not beyond the end of a third academic year.
Each scholarship covers university fees, cost-of-living expenses, annual book grant, thesis grant, research and daily travel grants, fares to and from the United States, and, where applicable, a contribution toward the support of a dependent spouse.
All applicants for the Marshall scholarship must obtain a letter of endorsement from their home university. UM students who wish to be considered for endorsement must submit an application to the Office of Prestigious Awards and Scholarships by August 11. This helps the UM fellowship advising staff better understand your goals.
If you miss the campus deadline, you may not be considered for endorsement.
NOTE: Advisors in the Office of Prestigious Awards and Fellowships are able to provide feedback on your application materials prior to the campus deadline, however, there will be no individual meetings or calls scheduled between August 1 and the campus deadline. Application materials should be sent to the Office of Prestigious Awards and Fellowships (prestigiousawards@miami.edu) for feedback.
