Empower Me First Mentoring Program

The goal of the Empower Me First Mentoring Program is to  connect undergraduate first-generation students with a faculty or staff mentor to assist in building social capital on campus and beyond. The program aims to provide  an additional measure of personal and academic  support for students as they navigate their college experience at the University of Miami  and navigate their pursuit of careers or  graduate  and professional school. 

  • Help students gain professional development and career direction while fostering a relationship with a faculty or staff member who can serve as a mentor or role model 
  • Time Management 
  • Creating academic success plan for GPA improvement 
  • Making the most of your undergraduate education 
  • Applying to graduate and professional school 
  • Navigating the transition to college 

Program Details

Eligibility: 

  • Mentees: Currently enrolled UM first-generation students who are at least sophomores
  • Mentors: Current UM Faculty & Staff who earned a bachelor's degree

Commitment:

  • The Empower Me First Mentoring program is an acdemic year commitment for both mentees and mentors
