The Gilman International Scholarship Program aims to support students who traditionally have been underrepresented in study abroad, including but not limited to: students with high financial need, students in underrepresented fields, such as the sciences and engineering, students with diverse ethnic backgrounds, and students with disabilities. Applicants must be receiving a Federal Pell Grant at the time of application or during study abroad term.
Scholarships of up to $5,000 will be awarded this academic year for U.S. citizen undergraduates to study abroad. Award amounts vary depending on the length of study and student need with the average award approximately $4,000. Recipients must use the award to defray eligible study-abroad costs, including program tuition, room and board, books, local transportation, insurance, and international airfare.
It is highly recommended that students wishing to apply for this award contact a study abroad advisor in the Study Abroad office at (305) 284-3434 or studyabroad@miami.edu before beginning the application process.
Visit https://www.gilmanscholarship.org/ for application instructions and materials. Students submit applications directly to Gilman via the website.
NOTE: If you would like to receive feedback on your application, you must send your materials to the Office of Prestigious Awards and Fellowships (prestigiousawards@miami.edu) at least two weeks prior to the application deadline.
