Advising and Academic Support

The Senior Academic Advisor for Diversity and Inclusion provides one-on-one and group advising for over 1,800 first-generation and underrepresented undergraduate students at the university. Additionally, the advisor works with campus and community partners to provide outreach support for students in the form of programs, workshops, and professional development opportunities.

Examples of support services students may seek assistance with include:

  • Time management
  • Creating an academic success plan for GPA improvement
  • Applying to graduate and professional school
  • Navigating the transition to college life

Walk-In Wednesdays

No appointment necessary, just walk-in! The advisor sees students on a walk-in basis from 10:00 AM – 3:30 PM each Wednesday.


Empower Me First Graduate Student

Yu Hao

Yu Hao is a graduate student from China. After graduating from the Tianjin University in the summer of 2017 with a Bachelor of Education, she began pursuing a Master of Science in Education at the University of Miami. Her three-year experience working with undergraduate students as a resident assistant, student supervisor, and the president of Student Union, ignited her great interest in helping students achieve their goals. Yu is also passionate about being a guide to help students on their journey to self-discovery. On a daily basis, she tries to view the world from a different perspective. She enjoys watching the sunset and the smell of the doughnuts baking in the oven.
