The Black History 101 Mobile Museum
November 14th, 2018

This November, we are bringing the Black History 101 Mobile Museum to the University of Miami! The award-winning exhibit, founded by Khalid el-Hakim, has been featured in The Huffington Post, The Chicago Tribune, Black Enterprise Magazine, and Ebony Magazine among others. Additionally, The Black History 101 Mobile Museum has traveled to 32 states visiting over 300 institutions including colleges, K-12 schools, corporations, conferences, libraries, museums, festivals, religious institutions, and cultural events. The museum has been hosted at Auburn University, Old Dominion University, University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign, and University of Michigan, just to name a few.

His diverse collection are rare artifacts representing categories including (but not limited to) slavery, politics, Jim Crow, science, religion, education, music, sports, and civil rights. Some of the highlights of the collection are documents signed by Frederick Douglass, Booker T. Washington, W.E.B. Dubois, Rosa Parks, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, Jr., Angela Davis, and many more. The 2018 tour for the museum entitled, 1968, encompasses over 150 original artifacts of memorabilia that focuses on major events and personalities on the 50th anniversary year of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination. Some of the showcased memorabilia in the exhibit coming to The U, will include rare artifacts from Aretha Franklin, James Brown, The Jackson 5, Jimi Hendrix, Arthur Ashe, Muhammad Ali, The Last Poets, The Black Panthers, and many others.
