The goal of the Empower Me First Mentoring Program is to connect undergraduate first-generation students with a faculty or staff mentor to assist in building social capital on campus and beyond. The program aims to provide an additional measure of personal and academic support for students as they navigate their college experience at the University of Miami and navigate their pursuit of careers or graduate and professional school.
Program Eligibility: The program is open to all current first-generation undergraduate students and university faculty and staff members. Faculty and Staff members are not required to identify as first-generation college graduates.
Program Time Commitment: For the 2020-2021 the mentoring program will be conducted virtually. Selected mentors and mentees are expected to meet virtually at least once per month with the exception of December, January and May.
